How to Afford Orthodontic Treatment
You may know that you need braces. You may have been told that your child needs braces. What you probably don’t know, though, is how you’ll pay for them.
Aren’t they expensive? Does dental insurance cover anything? If you’re under the impression that orthodontic treatment isn’t affordable, you may decide not to have it. That can cause long-term consequences – after all, crooked teeth aren’t just cosmetic.
If you’re curious about how to afford treatment, these options may be something to look into.
Some Insurance Helps with Braces
Depending on what insurance you have, you might be able to get help with braces or Invisalign treatment. Some insurance plans we accept at Hodge Ortho include Aetna, Cigna, Delta Dental, Metlife, and others.
Insurance plans generally only cover a percentage of the cost of orthodontic treatment, however even that can make the braces or Invisalign more affordable. From there, you can look at the additional options below.
Ask for a Payment Plan
Being able to break the cost of orthodontic treatment up into smaller parts can help make it much more affordable. We offer payment plans through our financial coordinator. Once we finish the evaluation and know what treatment options you’re interested in, we can work on a plan that fits your budget.
This type of payment plan can help you save interest over other payment strategies, including credit cards or loans. Being able to spread out payments throughout your treatment can make the cost a lot less intimidating.
Consider Credit Options
Whether you’re trying to make your payment plan installments or you want to pay in full, some patients choose to use credit for some or all of the cost of orthodontic treatment. Interest rates on credit cards can be quite high, so you might consider lower-cost loans such as home equity or personal loans.
When you have something you can use as collateral, such as a car or even a home, you can get much lower interest rates. You don’t have to borrow the full amount of the treatment, but you can if it works out best for you.
Consider Non-Profits That May Help
Programs like Smiles Change Lives can help qualifying families get braces for their children. These non-profit organizations can review your situation and may be able to help you afford braces treatment.
The best way to afford treatment is to talk to the orthodontist you plan to get treatment with. They can let you know what programs they partner with and what you need to do to apply. They can also let you know if there are lower-cost options – for instance, traditional braces are less expensive than ceramic or Invisalign.
