What is it like to get Invisalign Braces?
Invisalign braces are a miracle for adults looking to fix their crooked smile.
Invisalign braces are a miracle for adults looking to fix their crooked smile. Most of us are traumatized by the railroad-like, metal braces we saw our friends wear in grade school. With Invisalign braces, adults are getting a straight smile by wearing virtually invisible devices.
Do you think your smile is crooked? The biggest regret Hodge Orthodontics Invisalign patients have is this: Not starting treatment sooner. Your smile is important. Now you can have a healthy smile without going through a “metal mouth” phase.
Just because the treatment is less noticeable, doesn’t mean getting Invisalign braces are a walk in the park. Here are a few things you can expect while you go through the Invisalign treatment.
You have to wear your Invisalign braces for 20 to 22 hours a day.
You have to take your Invisalign braces off to eat and drink. The two to four hours you spend without your braces will likely add up during that time. As an adult you are are much better at remembering to wear a dental appliance than a youngster with a retainer would be.
That doesn’t mean this won’t be difficult. Say you leave town for a few days and forget your Invisalign appliance. It is not the end of the world. However, your teeth will shift. When you get back to wearing your application, you will likely experience tightness or even soreness.
They are invisible.
They are so invisible that Invisalign has a blue mark feature so parents have a way to tell if their teens are wearing their tray. You will notice them. You might even have a slight lisp during your first few days of wear. The world around you will just see your teeth.
Your teeth may feel loose when you remove the Invisalign tray.
Don’t be alarmed when you remove your Invisalign tray and feel that your teeth are loose. This is all part of the adjustment process. The gums of your teeth are having to re-adjust to the new position of your teeth.
Your gums will adjust by the end of the treatment. Keeping your teeth snug in their place.
You can brush your teeth like normal.
No special flossing required. Simply remove the tray and brush and floss your teeth as normal. Dr. Hodge will provide you with a care kit for cleaning your Invisalign braces. Cleaning your Invisalign trays properly will prevent them from getting a yellowish tint.
